Annual Spring Haircuts
Silas and Ephraim had not had their hair cut since the beginning of the school year (Sept. 2010). That is, if you discount Elizabeth's recent chopp-off of Ephraim's bangs. Today was the day we brought out the clippers!

A Respite from Unpacking Boxes
Who needs a gym membership when you get to shovel snow every day?!?! So far, since our arrival in Medicine Hat I think it's snowed every night. The locals are all promising that this is not the norm. Besides, we've got a chinook on the way and the promise of four days above freezing should get some of this melted off.
Yesterday we registered the boys to start school. Tomorrow will be their first day. They are excited and nervous. Interestingly, the school that they will be attending has half-days every Wednesday, so their first day will be a short one.
Since today was the last of the their extended Christmas break (nearly 4 weeks), I decided to spend some fun time with them. We (Sarah and I) took them over to a local pond (3 minutes away) where I shovelled some of the surface for them and they skated for a bit. This was Ephraim's first time on skates. It was important to him to get some practice in because he will be skating regularly with his class at school.

Big changes for the boys this year as they are no longer studying at St. Jude's Academy. They are entering grades 3 (Silas) and 1 (Ephraim) at the public school in our neighbourhood.

St. Jude's Christmas Program
On Wednesday of this past week, Silas and Ephraim participated in the St. Jude's Academy Christmas Program. They both did a great job. Ephraim played a little prince and a kangaroo. Silas was a narrator.

Karate Master
Ephraim and Silas began studying karate at a local dojo back in September 2008. Their motivation was that our neighbor's son was taking lessons. Silas has recently retired. The glamour wore off for him quickly. But Ephraim continues to enjoy it.
A couple of weeks ago he tested for his first belt advancement and passed! This morning we attended his belt ceremony where he was awarded "advanced white belt." The youngest in his grading class (and definitely the smallest) we were proud of him and he announced to us that he was proud of himself too!

Full Circle (Nearly)
From September 1994 - August 1996, I worked for the Missoula Children's Theatre company as a tour actor/director. I travelled in a little red pick-up from town-to-town for two years putting on local productions of fairy tale classics using local children in the cast.
When I joined the staff at Grace in 2002, one of my goals was to figure out how to incorporate MCT into our ministry here in Mississauga and host an event.
Well, last week, we did just that. We hosted an MCT week and had a production of The Princess and the Pea at our new facility, the Grace Centre. It was a fantastic week and Silas got to play the role of a Dust Bunny!
